Tracie’s Trip to Battle Creek

In  the diary there is a section marked my trip to Battle Creek.  Laura (Tracie’s sister) lived in Battle Creek.

Started from Logan on the 8-31 train, went to Mo. Valley changed cars there.  Got on the train went thru California Jc.  Modale, Mondamion, Little Sioux, Blencoe then changed cars at Onawa, waited 1 hour and twenty minutes, went thru Turind, Castina, Mapleton, Danbury Then to Battle Creek.

Coming home took the 12-28 train went thru Ida Grove, Arthur, Odebolt changed cars at Wall Lake waited about twenty minutes went thru Herring, changed cars at Boyer, went thru Deloit, changed cars at Dennison 1 hour twenty minutes went thru Arion, Dow City, Dunlap, Woodbine then got off at Logan last 4.32.

Diary August 1913

August 1  Did up the work.  Lydia helped in the field.  To bed at 8:30

August 2  Mama and Frank went to town.  I did up the work, got dinner.  Jim came in the afternoon we went to Logan. then to the party at Williams in the eve.  Jim stayed all night. To bed at 1.

August 3  Sunday Mama and Dad went down by the Valley.  Emma Rubert came down.  Herb came in the afternoon.  Us kids here alone.  To bed at 12-30.

August 4 Sewed a little while.  Not much of anything else. To bed at 8-30.

August 5  Washed in the morn, fooled around.  To bed at8-30.

August 6  Harry brot Emma home Frances went along with him.  We ironed.  Mattie and Bill here a while.  Emma and I went down to Birkses.  All went over  to Knauses in the eve. To bed at 10.

August 7  Went over to Knauses after apples.  Papa and Emma went to town.  Cora Henderson came home with them.  Jim and Rubert came down.  Lydia. Herb and Cora went to the chivalry at Johnsons.  To bed at 12.

August 8  Sewed all day.  Flossy and Bill came after apples in the eve.  Us kids took Cora over to Aleck’s To bed at 9-30.

August 9  Did up the work and sewed in the afternoon.  Top bed at 8-10.

August 10  Sunday.  Had a nice rain.  Went to SS. Floyd B and Robert here for dinner.   Anna, Harry, Ted,  Effie and Jim here in the afternoon.  Started for church in the eve but it stormed.  To bed at 12-15.

August 11  Washed in the morn.  Flossy and Roy here after apples.  To bed at 8.

August 12,13  Ironed.  Went up to Annas To bed at 8-30.

August 14  Emma went over to Japs.  Not much of anything doing.  Went to Knauses in the evening. Bed at 11.

August 15  Did up the work.  Went top a farewell party at Grossmores in honor of Mr and Mrs Fred-------- Did up the work Saturday To bed at 1-30.

Diary July 1913

July 1  Washed in the morn.  Anna and Bessie came down.  Helped Anna make her dress. Bessie is going to Nebr.  Maude’s here a little while.   To bed at 8:30.

July 2  Ironed, sewed.  Mattie and the kids came down.  Helped Mattie sew on her dress.  Emma and I went over on the hill and talked to Stella and Velma a while.  To bed at 9-30.

July 3  Did up the work.  Harris came up.  Maude and the kids came down in the eve.  Had Ice Cream.  To bed at 9-30.

July 4  Mattie and Bill came out  after Jim and I in the car went to Logan a crowd of us young kids had dinner together.  Went for a car ride over to Magnolia and back.  Came home and the kids stayed for a while, had some fun.  To bed at 2 o’clock.

July 5  Picked berries and canned them.  Did up the work.  To bed at 9.

July 6  Sunday Went to S.S.   Esta came home with me.  Ted’s and Jap’s here, Jim and Rubert came in the afternoon.  Anna, Harry, Oscar, Ruth and Clyde were here in the eve.   Willie Spanswick came up to work.  To bed at I don’t know.

July 7  Picked berries.  Emma and Frances went to town.  Sewed a little while.  To bed at 8-30.

July 8  Washed in the morn.  Wrote a couple letters.  Anna and Oscar came down.  Anna stayed all night.   Us kids all went over to Clayton’s in the eve.  To bed at 10.

July 9  Ironed.  Maude and the kids came down.  Oscar came down after Anna.  We all went up to Anna’s in the eve.  Rode home with Jim part way.  To bed at 1-30.

July 10  Picked berries.  The horses got out.  Lydia and Emma went after them. The Clayton kids here,  Maude and the kids here too. To bed at 8-30.

July 11  Did up the work.  Mama, Lydia and Frances went to Sidney on a visit.  Maude and the kids came down.  Billy is working for Jap a few days.  To bed at 8-45.

July 12  Did up the work.  Maude left the kids here while she went to town.  Jim and Rubert came down in the eve.  To bed at 11-30.

July 13  Sunday.  Emma went to S.S.  I stayed home and got dinner.  Harris, Jim, Rubert, Mattie and Bill were here.  Went up to Esta’s  a little while.  The kids all went to church in the eve.  I didn’t.  To bed at 11-30.

July 14  Did up the work.  Mama and the kids came home.  To bed at 10 o’clock.

July 15  Washed in the morn.  Not much of anything else to do.  Roy Williams was here in the eve.  Rubert came after Emma she went down to Gramkou’s to work.  To bed at 10 o’clock.

July 16  Ironed all morning.  Sewed a little bit.  To bed at 9.

July 17  Did up the work.  Helped with the hay.  Jim and the Clayton kids here in the eve.  To bed at 2.

July 18  Papa and I went to town.  Lydia, Billy and I and the Knauses kids went over to Clayton’s in the eve.  To bed at 2.

July 19  Mama sick all day.  Did up the work.  Lydia,  ?  Stuve and Billy went to Persia.  I went to Ronfelts to phone.  To bed at 9.

July 20  Sunday.  Went to S.S.  Jim, Ted’s and Jap’s here.  Byron, Lisle and Harry Dungan here a while went for a ride in the eve.  To bed at 12-30.

July 21  Did up the work.  Sewed a while to bed at 8-30.

July 22  Washed in the morn.  Papa went to Persia.  It rained. To bed at 9.

July 23  Ironed all morn.  Mama and Papa went to town.  Billie and I made a hammock.  Emma, Rubert, Anna, Harry and Harris were here in the eve.  To bed at 10-30.

July 24  Was sick all day.  Jim and Juanita were here in the eve.  To bed at 12-30.

July 25  Maude and the kids were here.  Clarence Evans came in the afternoon.  To bed at 8-30.

July 26  Did up the work.  The folks went to town.  Clarence went home.  Papa went to Omaha.  Stella came home with them from town.  It stormed.   Jim and the kids came down  and we went to the party at Albert’s  had a pretty good time about 20 their.  Anna  Stella stayed all night.  To bed at 1-30.

July 27  Sunday Billy, Anna and I took Stella home.  Went to S.S.  Emma, Rubert, Harry and Harris here for dinner.  Jim came down and we all went over to Webers.  Went to church in the eve at P.H.  To bed at 12.

July 28  Sewed all day.  Minnie and Jap here in the eve.  To bed at 9.

July 29  Washed in the morn.  Effie came over.  Emma went home with her.  To bed at 8-30.

July 30  Ironed in the morn.  Not much of anything else.  All went over to Claytons  in the eve.  To bed at 9-30.

July 31  Helped load hay all day.  Jim came over in the eve.  To bed at 12-30.

July 4 Mattie and Bill are James X sister Mattie and Brother in law Bill Podendorf.
July 6 Esta is most likely Esta Wilson... a cousin.   Grandma spoke of her often..

Diary: June 1913

June 1   Sunday.  Jap’s here for dinner.   Leona, Hattie and Beulah were here.  Jim came and we went to church and Sunday School.  I went to Anna’s Sunday eve.  To bed at 2-30.

June 2  Anna, Oscar and I went to Harlon  bummed around.  To bed at 8-30.

June 3  Washed.  Rubert up a little while.  Jim came in the eve.  To bed at 11-30.

June 4  Ironed, washed woodwork and windows.   Jim came up we all went down home.  To bed at 1.

June 5  Washed the woodwork in the dining room.  Emma and I went up to school in the afternoon.   Rubert came over in the eve.  To bed at 8.

June 6  Did up the work.  Picked some strawberries.  To bed at 8-30.

June 7  Emma, Erman, Frank and I went to town.  Jim and Rubert came down,  us kids all went to a party over to Haight’s  had a fine time about 80 there.  To bed at 3-15.

June 8  Sunday.  Went to Sunday School.  The folks went over to Jap’s.   Jim and Rubert came down,  us kids went over to Bethel to the Childrens  Day Program.  Anna, Oscar, Harry and Harris here in the eve.  Us kids practiced.  To bed at 11.

June 9   Rev. Marsolf came out, him, Emma and I went to visit the school.  Maude and the kids here a little while.  To bed at 8.

June 10  Went up to Matties and sewed all day.  Lydia came after me.  Clarence went to Omaha.  To bed at 9-15.

June 11  Ted here, helped hay.  To bed at 8-30.  Picked berries.

June 12  Washed in the morn.  Emma and I went up to school in the afternoon to practice.  Had the school program in the afternoon eve it was just fine.  Eva Henderson stayed all night.  To bed at 12.

June 13  Ironed in the morn.  Eva went home.  My birthday got a watch and a centerpiece.  To bed at 8.      This was her 18th Birthday.

June 14  Did up the work.  Mama and Lydia went to town.  Nina and the kids were here in the afternoon.  To bed at 9-15.

June 15  Sunday.  Laura and Clarence came down in the car.  Ted’s, Jap’s, Albert’s, Charlie, Mattie’s, Anna’s, Oscar, Rubert, Harris, Jim , Mattie and Will went for an auto ride in the eve.   Erman went home.  Was stormy.  To bed at 9.

June 16  Washed in the morn, sewed in the afternoon.  Emma and Lydia and I went up to Anna’s in the eve.  Lydia stayed.  Seen Jim and Rubert on the way home.  To bed at 1-30.

June 17   Ironed and sewed.  Ted here a little while.  To bed at 8-15.

June 18  Went up to Mattie’s and sewed all day.  Fred and Maude were married at 2 o’clock in Mason City.  To bed at 8-30.

June 19   Picked berries.  Was sick.  Mrs. Birkes, Stella, Velma, Ruby and the baby was here in the afternoon.  To bed at 8-30.

June 20  Did up the work. Rained.  Jim came over were going to Woodbine but it rained.  Rubert came in the eve us kids all went up to Albert’s.  To bed at 10.

June 21  Did up the work.   Emma and Frank went to town.   Maude and the kids came down.  Jim came over we went to town.  Mattie and Will brot us out to Ted’s for supper us four their alone.  Went back to Logan and drove the team out,  came out to Ted’s to stay all night.  To bed at 11-30.

June 22  Sunday.  At Ted’s.  Franks here for dinner.  Jim went to band practice.  Mattie, Bill and Cora came out after me.  Went for a car ride, came home in the eve.  To bed at 1 o’clock.

June 23  Went up to help Maude iron, sewed on my dress.  Mr. Dow worked here today.  To bed at 8-30.

June 24  Washed in the morn.  Sewed on my dress.  To bed at 8-30.

June 25  Ironed, sewed.  Anna and Ruth here.  Mama, Papa and Frank went to town.  To bed at 8-30.

June 26  Sewed all day.  Party at Dows but never went.  Jim and Rubert came down in the eve.  To bed at 11.

June 27  Sewed all day.  Emma and I went over to Clayton’s in the eve.  To bed at 9-45.

June 28  Did up the work.  Lydia and Dad went to town.  Emma and Rubert went to Persia.  The kids went up to Maude’s in the eve.  To bed at 9.

June 29  Sunday.  Went Went to S. S.   Herwinkles came up in the car.  Bessie, Anna, Harry and Harris and Maude’s were here.  Webers to.  Jim and Rubert came in the eve.  Mattie, Bill, Grover, Miss Plath, Faye and Sam Shepherd came over a while in the eve.  It rained.   To bed at 1-30.

June 30  Sewed nearly all day.  Mama went to the funeral.  To bed at 8-15.

 

Note:  June 22  Mattie , Bill and Cora.  Mattie was Jim’s sister, she was married to William (Bill) Podendorf on July 30 1913.  Cora is also Jim’s sister..but she was born in 1899 so she was only 14 years old ( she also married a William (Bill) Wittendorf but not until 1919)

Note:  June 15.  Laura and Clarence.  Laura was Tracie’s sister she was married to Clarence Evans.   I believe they lived at Battle Creek.  Ermin is  Laura and Clarence’s child. 

Diary: May 1913

May 1  Ironed.  The little peddler here, sewed a  little bit.  Went up to Maude’s  a while in the eve.  To bed at 10.

May 2  Helped Mama in the morn.  Sewed in the afternoon.  Got my new hat.  Rained in the eve.  To bed at 9.

May 3  Rained nearly all day.  Jim and Rubert came over, us four kids went to town.   Jim, Mattie and I went out to Jim’s folks to stay all night.  To bed at 11-30.

May 4  Sunday.  Over to Henderson’s.   Grover and Bill P.  came down, all went down to Huff’s  a little while. Then took a walk, came home in the eve.  To bed at 12.

May 5  Sewed a little bit.  Fooled around.  To bed at 8-30.

May 6  Washed in the morn. I went over to Japs to sew.  To bed at 10.  Perry was over.

May 7  Sewed all day.  Perry, Eva and I went up to Fred Hiller’s in the eve.   To bed at 10-30.

May 8  Sewed all day.  Anna and Emma came after me, went home.  Rubert and Jim here in the eve.  Kuster’s party but didn’t go the boys wouldn’t take us.  To bed at 12.

May 9  Helped Anna sew all day, Harry came after her.  Emma, Lydia and Frances went over to Knauss’es in the eve.  To bed at 8-15.

May 10  Did up the work.  Papa and Emma went to Battle Creek to the Dr.  To bed at 8-30.

May 11  Sunday.  Went to Sunday School,  Mama and the kids went up to Franks.  Jim and Anna here in the afternoon.   Had a little talk in the eve.  To bed at 1-30.

May 12  Worked outside in the morn.  Mama went to town after Dad.  Sewed a little bit.  To bed at 8-30.

May 13  Sewed all day.  It rained.  To bed at 8-30.

May 14  Sewed.  Mattie and Harold here.  Had an awful rain.  To bed at 8-15.

May 15  Cleaned the floors.  Wrote letters.  Jim came down in the eve.  To bed at 12.

May 16   Sewed all day.  Had the headache was sick all night.  To bed at 6-30.

May 17  Did up the work.  Lydia and I went to town went to the Movies.  To bed at 8-30.

May 18  Sunday.  Stayed home in the morn.  Went to Sunday School and Church in the afternoon.  Anna, Harry, Oscar and Jim came down.  The kids went to church in the eve.  I did not.  To bed at 1-10.

May 19  Sewed all day.  Papa went to town.  Was tired to bed at 8.

May 20  Sewed all day.  Papa went to Co. Bluffs to the funeral,  Frankie Stumpy got killed by a train.  Emma came home.  Erman came with her.   Rubert was here in the eve.  To bed at 9-30.

May 21  Didn’t do much of anything in the morn.  Washed in the afternoon.  Mama went to town after Dad but he didn’t come.   To bed at 9.

May 22  Dad and Uncle Bill came.   I went to town with Anna, Harry and Oscar in the car.   Jim and Rubert here in the eve.  To bed at 2 o’clock.

May 23   Ironed in the morn.  Uncle Bill went home.  Stella here in the afternoon.  Perry and Eva here in the eve.  To bed at 10-45.

May 24  Did up the work. Emma, Frances, Erman and I went to town.  Anna, Harry, Oscar came down.  Lydia went to town with them.  To bed at 8-30.

May 25  Sunday.  Went to Sunday School.  Emma and I went over to Clayton’s.  Nina and Mable Beckman came home with us.  Rubert and Jim came in the eve.  To bed at 1-10.

May 26  Emma, Erman and I went up to Anna’s and stayed all day.  Harry went to Harlan.  To bed at 8-30.

May 27  Washed in the morn.  Mama went to town.  Sewed a little bit.  To bed at 8-30.

May 28  Emma, Erman and I went up to Mattie’s.  Papered the room.  To bed at 9-30.

May 29   Was sick all day.  Jim, Anna, Harry, Oscar and Rubert was down in the eve.  To bed at 2 o’clock.

May 30  Did up the work.  Mama and the kids went to the cemetery.  To bed at 9.

May 31  Papa, Mama and Lydia went to town.  Did up the work.  To bed at 8-30.

 

I finally figured out who Japs is it is Jasper Mc Kee who was married to  Minnie  ( Tracie’s sister).

The Bill P. that Grandma talks about on May 5 is most likely Bill Podendorf ( Bill was married to James X Henderson’s  sister Mattie)

April 1  April fool   Washed in the morning.  Fooled around.  To bed at 7-30.

April 2  Was sick all day with a cold.  To bed at 8.

April 3  Sewed in the morn.  Ruth and Jermayne here in the afternoon played games. to Bed at 7-30.

April 4  Papa, Lydia and Mama went to town.  Anna and Bessie came down.  Went after the mail talked to the Clayton kids.  To bed at 9.

April 5  Did up the work.  Ted here.  To bed at 8-30.

April 6  Sunday.  Japs and Harris here for dinner.  Jim came down we all went to Sunday School and church.  Rev. Mc Comb preached.  To bed at 12-45.

April 7  Sewed all day.  It rained. To bed at 7-45.

April 8   Sewed.  It rained.  Had the headache.  To bed at 7-15.

April 9  Sewed.  It rained.  Bessie here a little while.  To bed at 7-45.

April 10  Washed in the morn.  Snowed all day.  Sewed a little while.  To bed at 8-30.

April 11  Sewed, made my dress.  Japa and Perry and Maude’s and Al were here.  Papa and Clarence went to town.  To bed at 9.

April 12  Went to town with Albert’s up to Morris’es for dinner.  Papa and Lydia went to Mo. Valley.  Came home to bed at 9-15.

April 13  Sunday.  Stella and Velma were here a while went to Sunday School.  Rubert took me up to Anna’s.  Albert’s there.  Jim came in the afternoon, came home in the eve.  Papa and Lydia came home.  Ted and Oscar were here to phone.  To bed at 1-30.

April 14  Washed in the morn.  Mama and I cleaned the yard. To bed at 7-45.

April 15  Did up the work.  Rev. Marsolf here for dinner and in the afternoon.  Lydia and I went for a horseback ride in the eve.  Went down to Birks’es and then up to Peterson’s to phone to Anna.  Came home to bed at 10.

April 16  Ironed in the morn.  Sewed a little.  Jim came in the eve, we all went to the chivalrie at Williams about 40 kids there played party games.  To bed at 1-30.

April 17  Anna came down.  Her and I sewed all day.  Mama and Papa went to town.  To bed at 8-30.

April 18  Sewed all day.  Had the headache in the eve.  Went to bed at 8.

April 19  Did up the work.  Lydia, Papa, Frank and I went to town.  Emma came home.  To bed at 9.

April 20  Sunday.  Stella, Velma, Rubert, Jim, Harris, Anna, Harry and Frank were here for dinner.  Us kids went to church in the afternoon and to church again in the eve.  To bed at 12-45.

April 21  Cleaned the bedroom and put things back.  To bed at 7-45.

April 22  Washed in the morn, not much of anything in the afternoon.  To bed at 8-30.

April 23  Ironed.  Papa and Mama went to town.  Emma and I started to clean the front room.  It rained.  To bed at 8-15.

April 24  Emma and I papered the front room, washed wood work and windows.  Jim and Rubert came in the eve.  To bed at 12-30.

April 25  Put down the carpet and cleaned the rest of the room.  Emma, Frank, Mama and I went up to Anna’s.  Frances stayed.  Oscar has a car.  Got our new bed.  To bed at 8-30.

April 26   Did up the work.  Sewed a little.  Mattie and Harold here a little while.  Clarence went home. ( The hired man)

April 27  Sunday.  Jim came down went to S.S. then Jim,  Velma,  Stella,  Emma,  Rubert and I went up to Anna’s,  fooled around there went to church in the eve at P.H.  ( Pleasant Hill)  To bed at 1-30.

April 28  Effie and Ted here all day.  Rev. Marsolf here a little while.  Mama and Papa went over to Weber’s.  Went for a ride in the afternoon.  To bed at 8-30.

April 29  Did some baking and cleaned up the house.  Had a little party in the eve.  Had a fine time about 30 here, wasn’t in very good humor, To bed at ---

April 30  Washed in the morning.  Mama and Papa went to town.  Emma over to Japs.  To bed at 8-45.

March 2  Sunday.  Went to Sunday School and Church.  Jim and Robert came in the eve.   Anna went over to Japs.  To bed at 12.

March 3  Sewed nearly all day.  To bed at 9.

March 4  Went over to Japs in the afternoon.  Papa and Harry to town.  To bed at 10-30.

March 5  Papa and I helped Ted’s move.  I stayed all night. To bed at 9-30.

March 6  Went over to Minnie’s rode with the mail man. Worked there the rest of the week.  Lydia came over after me on Sat.  The kids were all to Persia that day.  Rubert here in the eve.  To bed at 11.

March 9  Sunday  went to Sunday School.   Jim here, went over to Japs in the eve.  To bed at 12.

March 10  Worked at Minnie’s all week.  Albert came after me on Saturday  came home.  Jim, Rubert, Stella, Emma and I all went to Harry’s in the eve.  Bessie was there.  Jim and I stayed all night. To bed at 2-30.

March 16  Sunday   Anna, Harry, Oscar Ivens, Bessie, Jim and I all went home.  Harris here, Rubert came in the eve.  To bed at 11-45.

March 17  Sewed all day.  Emma sick.  Papa came home, Uncle Henry came with him.  To bed at 8-30.

March 18  Ted’s and Minnie’s were here.  Harris took Uncle home in the eve.  To bed at 9-30.

March 19  Washed in the morning.  Papa, Harris, Emma and I went to town.  Francis to Ted’s and Lydia is over to Minnie’s.   It stormed in the eve.  To bed at 9-15.

March 20  Sewed all day.  Had the headache.  To bed at 8.

March 21  Sewed.  Anna, Harry, Bessie, Oscar Ivens were here.  To bed at --

March 22  Did up the work.  Nothing doing.  To bed at 9.

March 23  Easter Sunday.  Harris here for dinner.  Jim came down went to Sunday School and Church.  Our hired man came in the eve.  Clarence Jackson.  Had an awful storm. To bed at 12.  Rubert did not come.

March 24  Sewed a little bit.  Rubert came in the eve.  To bed at 9-15.

March 25  Anna and Bessie came down to do some sewing.  Papa to town.  Emma started for Battle Creek*.  Harris here.  To bed at 8-30.

March 26  Did up the work.  Nothing doin, to be at 8-30.

March 27  Lydia and I swept the hole house.  Ruth here in the afternoon.  Jim came in the eve.  To bed at 12-45.

March 28  Anna and Harry, Bum and Bessie and I went to town.  Had some fun, stopped at Ted’s for supper came home to bed at 10-10.

March 30  Sunday Lydia Frank and I drove to Sunday School Then went up to Anna’s.  Rubert was there had lots of fun.   Took a walk and played cards.  Came home.  Jim came in the eve.  To bed at, don’t know.

March 31  Was sick all day.  Mam , Papa and Frances went to town.  Clarence up to Albert’s.  To bed at 7-45.

 

*I believe that older sister Laura lived at Battle Creek.

Diary February 1913

February 1  Did up the work.  Lydia and Frank went up to Franks.  Anna, Harry and I went to town.  Went to the show, then us kids drove to Mo. Valley in the eve to Frazier’s.  Went over to Andersons and we all went to the Masquerade dance at the Knights of Ladies Hall.  Just had a fine time.  Had lots of fun going home.  Fred and I stopped at Andersons a while then home to bed at 1.

February 2  Sunday.  Anna, Harry, John and Hattie went out to the farm.  Fred and I stayed with Vernie.  The Anderson kids came over there, had some music came home in the eve.  Jim and Rupert here.  To bed at 11-30.

February 3  Mama and I went up to Maude’s.  They butchered.  Papa and Harry went to town.  To bed at 7 o’clock.

February 4  Washed in the morn.  Emma and Nina Clayton here in the afternoon.  Ruth and Floyd came in the evening.  Popped corn and made candy to bed at 10-45.

February 5  Churned and helped Mama render lard.  Anna went up to Maude’s.  Emma and I read in the eve.  To bed at 9-30.

February 6  Did up the work.  Ironed.  Anna and Harry went down to Ted’s to stay all night.  To bed at 8-30.

February 7  Did up the work.  Anna and Harry came home.  Papa, Mam and I went to town.  Mama and Papa went to Co. Bluffs.  Rubert came him and Emma, Harry and Anna went to Literary.  Us kids stayed home alone.  To bed at 10.

February 8  Did up the work.  Made Ice Cream.  Emma went over to Japs.  Minnie is sick.  “Awful lonesome”  To bed at 9 o’clock.

February 9   Not much of anything in the morn.  Went to church and Sunday School in the afternoon.  Jim and Rubert came in the eve.  Had lots of fun.  To bed at 1-10.

February 10  Effie and Ted came up.  Mattie and the kids here.  Frank came and they stayed in the eve. Fred came home. To bed at 8-30.

February 11  Emma went to town after Dad.  I went over to Minnie’s.  Faye Henderson is working there.  Jim and Rubert came in the evening.   Went for a ride.  Went to bed at ( The clock stopped at 9-20)

February 12  Washed in the morn.  Fred and Harry went to Woodbine.  Maude and the kids here all day.  To bed at 8-25.

February 13  Ironed.  Not much of anything else to bed at 8-45.

February 14  Did up the work, went to the mail box.  Anna went over to Claytons, Fred went to Woodbine.  Rubert came, us kids all went to Literary.  To bed at 11-30.

February 15  Lydia, Papa, Harry and Anna went to town.  Mama came home.  To bed at 8 o’clock

February 16  Sunday went to Sunday School.  Stella and Velma came home with us, they stayed for the eve.  Jim and Rubert came all went to church over to Bethal.  Anna and Harry came home. To bed at  1 o’clock.

February 17  Washed in the morning.  Ted and Effie here.  Anna, Effie, Ted and I went up where the boys were cutting brush in the afternoon.  To bed at 8 o’clock.

February 18  Ironed.  Anna and I went to town.  Came by Japs and brot Eva and Ila home with us.  To bed at 8-30.

February 19  Didn’t do much of anything.  Ted here for dinner.  Anna and Harry and us kids took Eva and Ila home and us kids went to church.  To bed at 10.

February 20  Mama went over to Japs,  Minnie sick.   Mattie and the kids here.  Elmer and Vera stayed all night.  To bed at 8-30.

February 21  Papa went to town.  Done some baking for the box supper.  Fred went away, is going to work in Mason City.  Did not have the box supper at Banner on account of a storm.  To bed at 9-15.

February 22  Anna and Harry went to Panama.  Emma went over to Japs.  Us kids all went to the box supper over at Banner.  Emma got the prize, Jim stayed all night.  Emma stayed at Stella’s.  To bed at 1-15.

February 23  Sunday went to Sunday School in the afternoon.  Rubert was Supt.  Jim and I drove past Aleck’s and stopped a little while.  Rubert and Carl Hammond were here in the eve.  Emma and Rubert took Carl home and nearly froze.  To bed at 12-15.

February 24  Mattie and the kids here all day.  Anna and Harry came home in the eve. To bed at 9.

February 25  Sewed on Mattie's dress.  Maude’s here.  The folks butchered.  Emma, Lydia, Francis and I went over to Krause's in the eve.  To bed at 10-30.

February 26  Did up the work.  Helped put away the meat.  To bed at 9.

February 27  Washed in the morn.  Mopped and sewed.  To bed at 9-30.

February 28  Ironed.  Went up to school a while.  Jim and Rubert came in the eve.  Started to Lyceum but froze out, came home got a new ring.  To bed at 12 o’clock.

Diary: January 1913

Jan 1: New Years Day 1913.  Went to the neighbors to get money for the minister.  John, Hattie and Vern here.  Jims, Albert’s,  Harris and Harry here in the eve.  Had some music.   To bed at 12-30.

Jan 2:  Emma and Anna went to town.  Hattie and John went up to Maudes.  Started to make Emma’s pink dress.  To bed at 7.  Rubert came got up and talked  a while.  To bed at 9-25.

Jan 3:  Washed in the morn.  Sewed on Emma’s dress.  Us kids all went to Literary in the eve at Starry Point.  To bed at 12.

Jan 4:  Did up the work.  Frances, Jim and I went to town.  Went to a picture show.  Bessie came down on the 4-32 all went out to Japs for supper then came home.  To bed at 10-45.

Jan 5:  Sunday.  Snowed all day.  Bessie, Harry and Harris here.  Fooled around.   Jim and Rubert came in the eve.  To bed at 10-45.

Jan 6:  Bessie and I sewed.  Harris and Harry here.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 7:  Did  a lot of baking and cleaning the house.  Played Board of Trade in the eve.   Jim here.  To bed at 11-30.

Jan 8:  Did up the work.  Bessie, Harry, Rubert and Harris here for dinner.  Anna and Harry were married at 3 o’clock.  Albert’s,  Japs,  Franks, Teds, Uncle Johns,  Uncle Herman’s, Maude,  Jim, Rubert,  Bessie,  Harris,  Laura B. , Ferdinand D.   A chivalrie crowd came in the eve.  Played some games, had lunch at 11-30.  Japs, Frank’s and Uncle Herman’s stayed all night.  To bed at 3 o’clock.

Jan 9:  The people here a while in the morn.  Cleaned up the house.  Rubert came over.  Uncle Herman’s went home.  Bessie went home.  Fred to Mo. Valley.  The kids had their picture taken. To bed at 6-45.

Jan 10:  Washed in the morning.  Maude’s here.   Ferdinand and Laura came over.   Us kids all went up to Maude’s in the eve.  Played Board of Trade.  To bed at 11 o’clock.

Jan 11:  Did up the work.  Ironed a little bit. Harris, Harry, Anna, Emma, Ferdinand, Laura, Jim and I  all went down to Ted’s in the eve.  To bed at 1-20.

Jan 12:   Sunday.  Played Board of Trade.  Rubert came in the morn.   Laura and Ferdinand here we all went to Sunday School and Church in the afternoon.  Stella and Velma came home with us.  Jim came in the eve.  To bed at 1 o’clock.

Jan 13:  Mama, Papa, Laura, Ferdinand and I went to town.  The kids went home.  Talked to Fred Stuve.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 14:  Did not do much of anything.  Harris went over to Japs,  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 15:  Rubert came over before we were up.  Us four kids went to the Short Course.  Jim and I stopped at Japs a while.  Went to the Court room and Domestic Science in the afternoon.  Up to Morris’es for supper.  Hazel Sowers was there.  Then us kids went to the picture in the eve.  Came home.  To bed at 2 o’clock.

Jan 16:  Started to piece a quilt.  Ted came up after the horses.  To bed at 7-45.

Jan 17:   Sewed a little.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 18:  Did up the work.  Frances went up to Maudes.  Anna and Harry came home.  To bed at 8.

Jan 19:  Sunday Went to Sunday School.  Emma and I down to Birkses all day.  Jim and Rubert here in the eve.  To bed at 11-45.

Jan 20:   Helped Anna tie a quilt.  Finished my quilt top.   Harry went to Mo. Valley.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 21:  Washed in the morn.  Harry came home.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 22:  Anna and Harry went to Ted’s.  Papa and Mama to town.   Grandad and I here alone.   To bed at 8-30.

Jan 23:  Tied two comforts for Anna.  Not much of anything else.  To bed at 8-30.

Jan 24:  Tied a quilt in the morn.   Anna and I went over to Claytons in the afternoon.  Nina, Rubert and Jim came over, we went to the box supper at Starry Point.   To bed at 1.

Jan 25:  Did up the work.  Emma, Papa and I went to town.  Emma and I were going to Mo. Valley but missed our train, Trains in Logan don’t wait.  Went up to Morrises to stay all night.   Mr and Mrs Morris, Mrs. Vale, Leeta, Emma Tupper, Emma and I went to the picture show in the eve.  To bed at 10-30.

Jan 26:   Emma and I went to Mo. Valley.  Mr Crawford carried our suitcase to the depot.  Got down to Fraziers before they were up.   Johns Mother came down.   Fred went to Woodbine.  Mrs. Clark came down and stayed all night.   Pete Mc Klean  is boarding here.   Mrs Anderson, Lenora, Hubert, Martha,  Harold and Glendon were over in the eve.  The boys played on the violin and organ.  To bed at 12.

Jan 27:   Emma and I went uptown to meet Fred.  Were coming home but decided to stay.  I went over to Ed Fraziers to phone to Jim.  Helped Hattie take up the rug had a dance in the eve a nice crowd after the rest went home.  Martha, Leonard and Hubert stayed we had lots of fun.  To bed at 4-30.

Jan 28:  Got up at 10-45.  Put down the rug.  Martha and Fred went to the depot with us kids got to wave at Leonards.  Jim met us at the train in Logan came out home.  To bed at 11-45.

Jan 29:   Washed in the morn.  Washed our heads to.  Nina, Leona and Hattie Clayton were over here in the evening.

Jan 30:  Papa went to town.  Mama to Mrs. Dous, Emma and I ironed and sewed. To bed at 8-30.

Jan 31:  Swept upstairs. Jim came over, intended to go to Literary but I was too cold.  To bed at 11-30.
