Uncle John Basch

The Uncle John that Grandma talks about on January 08, 1913 is more than likely Uncle John Basch.

Uncle John Basch

Uncle John was Louisa Basche Stuves ( Tracie’s Mother) younger brother, born about 1876.  This photo is marked Uncle John  Basch and was found in the photo album.

Uncle Herman Stuve

In the diary entry on January 8, 1913  Grandma wrote of Uncle Herman’s coming for Anna and Harry’s Wedding.

Henry Ellerbeck

In the diary entry of September 16, 1912  Tracie talks of going to the Ellerbecks.   This is a photo that was in the album.   It is marked Henry Ellerbeck.

Henry Ellerbeck

H.A. Ellerbeck  and his wife Sophia and seven children were found in the 1900 census.  This photo was most likely taken in the 1880’s.  Bustle dress with apron, high collar and hair worn pulled back showing the ears.  H A was born in 1865, their first child was born in 1887.  The Ellerbecks lived near the Herman Basch farm, the Gottlieb Wittlands and Hugo Fisher..all people who I think are relatives.

Update:

This is Anna Louise Stuve Ellerbeck ( She was Louis Carl Stuve’s sister) so she and her husband would have been Aunt and Uncle to our Tracie.

I found some info that Dick Beck sent me:

Anna Louise born 1856 & married Franz Henrich Ellerbeck in 1874 . It was his 2nd marriage. His 1st marriage was to Wilhelmina Kamp.

John Basch

Uncle John Basch.  He was Louisa Basch Stuve’s youngest brother.  He was born about 1876. He would have been just three years old when his father died.
This photo is marked inside the album “Uncle John Basch.”
Uncle John Basch
I will guess that this wedding photo was taken sometime around  1900..he would have been 24 years old in 1900.   The bride obviously had some money as she is not wearing a dark colored dress.   Her dress looks to be a pastel color, which was not as practical and would not be worn as much as a darker dress.  Only the wealthy had a special dress to be married in.

I believe that this is the Uncle John that Tracie talks about in her diary on September 14 and 15th.  The Aunt Annie Young must be Johns baby sister who was born about 1878.  On September 19 she talks about Uncle Henry taking them into Aunt Marys.

Louisa Basch Stuve’s siblings were:

Carrie ( in the 1870 census then disappears) born about 1864

Mary born about 1866

Fred born about 1870

Bertha born about 1872

Harison born about 1874 ( possibly known as Henry)

John born 1876

Annie born about 1878..mostly likely married a Young

The Herwinkles

In the last diary entry Grandma talks about the Herwinkles on the 12th of September she rode with them from Church cleaning when she was sick, and on September 16th and September 17th  she went to visit them and stayed all night.

In the old photo album there are two photos of the Herwinkles.  I have not yet figured out a connection..were they relatives or friends?

I found Fredrick and Wilhemina Herwinkles in the 1900 census.  They lived near Louisa Basch ( Grandma to Tracie) who was living with son John in 1900.  They also lived near Theodore and Margaret Basch.

The Herwinkle children were: Mary 22, Louisa, 20, John 17, Fredrick 13, Lydia 12, August 10 and Lena 7  in 1900.  ( Henry the oldest son was most likely living elsewhere in 1900.) The youngest five children could be in the following photograph if it was taken about 1893.

All this family history had me looking..I found this Real Photo Postcard in the Bible that Grandma Tracie gave to Eugene.   It is James X. Henderson’s  Bible.  I have scanned the entries in the family section of the Bible and we will look at them when we get to the Henderson part of this adventure.
