Tracie’s Diary

Grandma kept a diary.  This is from when she was 16 1/2  years old. 
It starts:  December 1911—1912
December 23 Emma, Anna, Floyd, Harris, Fred and I went to Omaha. Came home in the eve.  Jim and Harry met the train stayed in town for supper. The Picture Show. To bed at 1 o’clock.
December 24 Stayed at home Stella, Velma, Ruth, Jermayne, Harry and Jim went with us to Xmas tree.  Emma and Hazel came home with us. to bed at 1 o’clock.
December 25  Xmas Day  stayed home the kids were all here to bed at 9 o’clock.
December 26 A weeks school vacation stayed at home  to bed at 8 o’clock.
December 27 Stayed at home and read to bed at 8 o’ clock.
December 28 Went to town Hazel came home with us to Amrines party in eve. To bed at 2 o’ clock.
December 29 was sick all day Hazel went home with Anna and Harry to bed at 930 o’clock.
December 30 Went to Esta’s in the afternoon.  Anna went to Berch’s Emma, Jim and I went to Henderson dance and nearly froze to death to bed at 4:30 o’clock.
December 31  Stayed at home had company Sunday night.  Jims smash up in the snowdrift. To bed at 1030 o’clock.

New Years Day
Jan 1 Went to school. Leslie Mills came to school. To bed at 8 o’clock.
Jan 2  went to school sleigh riding in the eve. went up to Morrises. To bed at 830 o’clock.
Jan 3  Went to school took my music lesson. To church in eve. to bed at 1030 o’clock.
Jan 4  Went to school. Esta came to visit. To church in the eve. To bed at 10 o’clock
Jan 5 Stayed at home all day To church in the eve. To bed at 11 o’clock.
Jan 6 Stayed at home Anna came home to bed at 9 o’clock.
Jan 7  Sunday Ted, Effie, Bessie and Harry and Maudes were her to talk to Jim.  To bed at 915 o’clock.
Jan 8  Went to school. To bed at 8 o’clock.
Jan 9   Went to school stayed all night at Morrises.  Hazel, John and Fred were there played cards to bed at 1130 o’ clock.
Jan 10  Went to school took my music lesson. To bed at 830 o’ clock.
Jan 11  Stayed at home Frank’s were here, Harry in the eve. To bed at 10 o’clock.
Jan 12 Stayed at home made my black skirt.  Ted and Harry were here. To bed at 10 o’clock.
Jan 13  Stayed at home got some music from R--- Emma, Lydia and I went to Henderson’s in the eve. To bed at 1130 o’clock.
Jan 14 Ted, Effie and Frank and Harry were here.  Jim cam in the eve. Something happened. To bed at 130 o’clock.
Jan 15 The beginning of the short course. Emma and I to town with Knausses up to Alecks at night at the lecture in the eve.  To bed at 12 o’clock.
Jan 16  Down town all day Hazel, Emma, Jim, Perry and I went to Japs.  Fred met the train.  Moving pictures in the eve.  Had at time before we went to bed. To bed at 815 o’clock.
Jan 17  Missed the morning train. Went through the exhibit car down town in the afternoon. Bowling alley in the eve. To bed at 1130 o’ clock.
Jan 18 Downtown all day Wilma stayed all night Hazel and I stayed at home. To bed at 10 o’clock.
Jan 19 Down Town all day.  Anna, Bessie and Harry came in. The spelling contest in the eve.  To bed at 1230 o’clock.
Jan 20 Stayed up to Aleck’s  all morning. Jim and I came home in the afternoon. To bed at 930 o’clock.
Jan 21  Went to Sunday School in the morning.  The funeral in the afternoon. Japs here in the eve. I was sick. to bed at 10 o’clock.
Jan 22  Stayed at home. Bessie, Frances, Anna and I home alone. To bed at 9 o’clock.
Jan 23  Went to school. Sleighrided went up to Morrises after school to bed at 845 o’clock.
Jan 24   Went to school. Bessie came to visit. Took my music lesson. To bed at 9-10 o clock.
Jan 25 Went to school went sleighriding in the eve about 20 there. To bed at 1030 o’ clock.
Jan 26 Went to school Anna and Harry went to Graham’s.  Emma , Jim and I went to Cutters party. To bed at 230 o’clock.
Jan 27  Stayed at home all day went to bed at 8 o’clock.
Jan 28 Sunday went to Sunday school in the morning. Ted, Effie, Franks, Stella and Jim were here.  To bed at 12 o’clock.  Anna came home that night.
Jan 29  Went to school had the headache. Perry and Eva were here in the eve.  Ate popcorn. To bed at 10 o’clock.
Jan 30  Went to school made ice cream to bed at 830 o’clock.
Jan 31 Went to school talked to Perry H.  took my music lessons. To bed at 9 o’ clock.

I think that the Hazel mentioned is Hazel Aleck Wall.
Tracie calls her brother Ferdinand Theodore “Ted”  and his wife is Effie.
Stella is most likely Stella Burkes..I heard Grandma speak of her.
Anna and Harry ..are Anna Stuve and Harry Razee.
